Cursor vs Claude Code (2026): SpaceX 交易完成後,誰會在無人監管時運行?

cursor vs claude code featured v2

Cursor vs Claude Code used to be an easy argument about where you like to type. On October 13, 2026 it got more interesting. Cursor, which SpaceX finished buying on August 14 for roughly $60 billion, is now sold to new customers as part of The X Subscription: one bill for Grok, Cursor and X Premium. Claude models still work inside Cursor, but on the new plans they no longer come out of your included usage. You pay Anthropic’s API list price for them, from prepaid credit, on top of the subscription.

I’m writing this from the other side of the fence. I don’t open an IDE most days. My Claude Code agents run on cron inside Docker on one VPS, and over the last seven days they dispatched 94 jobs: 93 ended in success and 1 was a deliberate skip (a subscriber sync that found no new contacts). This post is the comparison I’d want if I were a solo operator or a small-team owner deciding where my money and my nights should go. It is not a refactoring benchmark. There are enough of those.

Here’s what you’ll get: the short answer, the one architectural difference that matters, the “3am test” (updated, because Cursor can now run unattended too), October 2026 prices read straight off both vendors’ pages, and the split I’d actually recommend if you can afford both.

Cursor vs Claude Code: the Short Answer (and What Changed This Week)

Cursor vs Claude Code

Pick Cursor if you, a human, write or review code most days and want the AI inside the editor with you: tab completions, inline diffs, a visual agent window, cloud agents you kick off from Slack or a GitHub comment. It’s an excellent place to sit.

選擇克勞德代碼 if the work you want automated isn’t only code. If you want an agent that wakes up at 00:05, reads a queue in Airtable, writes and publishes a blog post, files a task in Asana and sends you a Telegram message, Claude Code is the more natural fit. That isn’t a hypothetical, by the way. It’s the job that produced this page.

Pick both if you’re a developer who also runs a business. More on that split below.

What changed on October 13

Every top-ranking comparison I read tonight (eight of them, from Qodo, Emergent, Requesty, Fixed Labs, Tembo and others) was written before the bundle launched. Three things are new, and they all touch the decision:

  • New Cursor plans are Free, Plus $8, Premium $30, Super $100 and Ultra $200 a month, sold through X. Annual billing is $80, $300, $1,000 and $2,000.
  • The included pool covers Cursor’s own models (Grok 4.7, 4.6, 4.5 and Composer 2.5) and is shared with the Grok apps. It refreshes weekly.
  • Third-party models, including Claude, sit outside that pool. On Premium and up they’re billed at API list price from prepaid credit. Plus and Free don’t get them at all.

If you’re already on a legacy Cursor plan (Pro $20, Pro+ $60, Ultra $200), Cursor’s docs say it “keeps working as it is”, with a separate pool for third-party models. New customers start on The X Subscription.

Editor-First vs Agent-First, Explained Without Developer Jargon

Editor-first Cursor compared with agent-first Claude Code

Most Cursor vs Claude Code comparisons say “Cursor is an IDE, Claude Code is a terminal tool” and stop. That’s true and nearly useless. Here’s the version that helps a business owner.

Cursor is a workshop with a very smart assistant in it

Cursor is a full code editor (a fork of VS Code) with AI built into every surface. You open your project, you see your files, and the AI suggests the next line, rewrites a function when you highlight it, or takes on a multi-file task in its Agent panel while you watch the diffs land. The human stays in the loop by default. That’s the point, and for a lot of work it’s the right default.

Claude Code is an employee who works from a task description

Claude Code is an agent you give a goal to. It reads files, runs commands, calls APIs, edits things and checks its own work. You can watch it in a terminal, run it in VS Code or JetBrains, or hand it a prompt with no screen at all: claude -p "do the thing". That last mode is where my business lives. A cron entry fires, the agent reads its instructions (a CLAUDE.md file plus a skill file), does the job, writes down what it learned, and exits.

Why the difference matters more than any benchmark

Editor-first tools are tuned to make 你 faster. Agent-first tools are built to let something happen 沒有 you. If your bottleneck is typing speed and context-switching inside a codebase, Cursor is aimed straight at it. If your bottleneck is that there’s only one of you and forty recurring jobs, you need the second kind. The Copilot comparison lands in the same place: one helps you type, one works alone.

Both have converged a lot in 2026, though. Cursor has a CLI, rules, skills, subagents, hooks and MCP. Claude Code has IDE extensions and diff review. So the honest question isn’t “can it?” but “what is it shaped for?”

The 3am Test: Both Can Run Unattended Now. The Difference Is Where, and on What

Cursor vs Claude Code running unattended at 3am

The original brief for this post said Cursor needs a human approving each diff. That was true of the Cursor most reviewers tested. It isn’t true anymore, and I’d rather correct the brief than repeat it. As of Cursor’s own docs tonight:

  • Cursor CLI has a print mode. agent -p "…" runs non-interactively with a CURSOR_API_KEY. Add --force and it applies file changes without asking.
  • Cloud Agents run in isolated VMs Cursor manages. They clone your repo, work on a branch and push changes back, with no laptop required.
  • Automations start cloud agents on a cron schedule or on events from GitHub, GitLab, Slack, Linear, Sentry, PagerDuty or a webhook. They’re included on Premium ($30) and up.

So yes, Cursor passes a basic 3am test. Here’s where the Cursor vs Claude Code split still shows up.

Where the agent runs

Cursor’s unattended work runs mainly on Cursor’s machines. Cloud agents need a connected repository (or a “start from scratch” environment), and the dev environment is something you configure for them. Cursor also documents self-hosted machines if you want tool execution on hardware you manage. Claude Code runs wherever you install it: a laptop, a $20 VPS, a Docker container, a CI runner. My fleet is a set of containers on one VPS. The line that matters in my dispatcher is literally:

claude --print --dangerously-skip-permissions -p "$INSTRUCTION" < /dev/null >> "$LOG_FILE" 2>&1

Skipping permissions is only acceptable because each brand’s agent is boxed into its own container with its own credentials. Don’t copy that flag onto your laptop.

What the agent touches

Cursor’s cloud agents are built around a repository: clone, branch, test, open a PR. They can reach MCP servers and post to Slack, but code is the center of gravity. My Claude Code jobs mostly don’t produce a pull request. Tonight’s job read a Content Calendar row, pulled a live SERP, scraped eight competitor pages, generated eight images, published to WordPress, set SEO meta, and wrote rows to four Airtable tables. Plenty of Claude Code users do the same with PRs. The tool doesn’t care which.

What it remembers

An unattended agent is only useful if tomorrow’s run knows what tonight’s run learned. My agents write their own lessons to a MEMORY.md file. It’s about 2.0 MB now, with no vector database, and it’s the reason last night’s run knew that “cursor vs claude code” was next in the queue. Cursor has rules and memories too, but scheduled jobs that build up their own operating notes are much more a Claude Code habit than a Cursor one.

The 3am question to ask: when the job runs and nobody’s awake, does it need a repository and a pull request, or a server and a dozen API keys? The first leans Cursor. The second leans Claude Code.

Cursor vs Claude Code Pricing in October 2026: The X Subscription Changes the Math

Cursor vs Claude Code pricing October 2026

Cursor vs Claude Code pricing is where most comparisons are now out of date. Every price below was read off Cursor’s pricing page, Cursor’s models and pricing docs 和 克勞德的定價頁面 on October 17, 2026. I haven’t run a month on the new Cursor tiers, so treat this as the published price list, not a lived bill.

Monthly priceCursor (The X Subscription)Claude (includes Claude Code)
$0Free: limited Agent and ChatFree: no Claude Code
$8Plus: Cursor models only (Grok + Composer). No cloud agents, Automations or third-party models不適用
$20n/a for new customers (legacy Pro)Pro ($17/mo billed yearly): Claude Code, Sonnet and Opus
$30Premium: 4x Plus usage, Cloud Agents, Automations, Bugbot, Claude/GPT/Gemini at API list price from prepaid credit不適用
$100Super: 15x Plus usage, priority access at peakMax 5x: 5x Pro usage + $100/mo in API credits
$200Ultra: 50x Plus usage, earliest accessMax 20x: 20x Pro usage + $200/mo in API credits

The line that matters if you like Claude

If the reason you’d use Cursor is to drive Claude models, the new plans change your bill. Your $30, $100 or $200 buys a pool of Grok and Composer usage. Claude runs come out of a separate prepaid balance at list price. Cursor’s docs list Claude Opus 5.5 at $4 per million input tokens and $20 per million output, and Claude Sonnet 5.5 at $2 and $10. Agent sessions burn tokens fast, because every turn re-reads context. Cursor also notes that Automations use each model’s maximum context window.

On Anthropic’s side, the subscription 是 the Claude allowance, and Max now adds monthly API credits on top. My own receipt: I run the whole fleet on Max 20x. The September invoice was $206.92 including tax.

Lock-in, both ways

Cursor is now multi-model by design but owned by a company with its own frontier model. That company is building its pool around Grok, and its billing runs through X. Claude Code is Anthropic-only by design. Neither is neutral, so choose the dependency you’re comfortable with. If you’re weighing exits, my Claude Code alternatives shortlist 以及 OpenCode comparison cover the model-agnostic options.

When Cursor Is the Right Call

When Cursor is the right call

I’m not anti-Cursor. I recommend it to people regularly. It’s the right call when:

  • You or your developer are in the code every day. Tab completion and inline edits are where Cursor is still best in class, and Claude Code doesn’t try to compete there.
  • You review everything visually. Seeing diffs in the editor, accepting hunks, flipping between files: if that’s how you trust changes, Cursor’s interface earns its price.
  • Your team lives in GitHub, Slack and Linear. Commenting @cursor on an issue and getting back a PR with screenshots and a video of the agent testing its work is a very good loop for a product team.
  • You want several model families under one roof. Grok, Composer, GPT, Gemini and Claude are all selectable, with Cursor’s router choosing per request on Teams.
  • You were already paying for X Premium or Grok. If those were on your card anyway, the bundle math genuinely favors you.

If you’re starting from zero and want to build an app by talking to it, my piece on 遊標氛圍編碼 is the practical walkthrough. For a wider look at editors, the AI-powered code editor roundup covers Cursor, Copilot, Windsurf and Zed side by side.

When Claude Code Is the Right Call (and the Fleet That Proves It)

When Claude Code is the right call for an operator

Claude Code is the right call when the deliverable is an outcome in your business, not a commit. That’s my whole operating model, so here are the receipts, re-measured tonight rather than copied from an old brief:

  • 1,686 dated run logs since June 12, 2026, all from scheduled Claude Code jobs.
  • 94 runs in the last seven days: 93 success and 1 intentional skip, with 0 failures. A watchdog agent at 23:35 checks every slot each night.
  • 353 published posts on this site before this one went live.
  • About 20 scheduled skills in this brand’s container: blog writing, newsletters, social scheduling, email triage, outreach, link prospecting and search-console sweeps.

None of those jobs open an editor. Most never touch a git repository. They read a skill file, call real APIs and leave a trail. That’s the shape Claude Code fits: a general-purpose agent you can schedule, not a code assistant you can also schedule.

Claude Code fits best when you need

  • To run on your own box. Cron, Docker, a $20 VPS, no third-party VM in the middle.
  • Work that crosses tools. WordPress, Airtable, Asana, email, image generation and analytics in one run.
  • Memory that compounds. CLAUDE.md for identity, MEMORY.md for lessons, skills for procedures.
  • One predictable bill. A Claude plan covers interactive and scheduled use, inside its usage limits.

The trade-offs are real. There’s no visual editor, so you’ll want one anyway if you write code by hand. Usage limits on the subscription are session- and week-based, so a runaway job can lock you out until reset. And the agent will happily do the wrong thing confidently if your instructions are vague. Read how I run Claude Code agents in production before you schedule anything that writes to a live system. If you’re coming from an app builder rather than an IDE, Replit vs Claude Code walks the same fork from that side.

If you’d rather have this kind of system built for your business than learn to build it, that’s what I do. 預約自動化策略會議 and we’ll sort which of your weekly jobs belong in an editor and which should become an agent.

Using Both: The Split I’d Recommend to a One-Person Business

Using Cursor and Claude Code together

Most people asking “Cursor vs Claude Code” don’t actually have to choose. Here’s the split I’d suggest, depending on who you are.

The quick version: Cursor vs Claude Code is a question about who’s at the keyboard, not about which model is smarter.

You’re a non-developer running a business

Start with Claude Pro at $20 and Claude Code alone. Your first win isn’t writing software, it’s getting one recurring job off your plate: a weekly report, an inbox triage, a content draft. When that job runs three weeks in a row without you, move it to a schedule. You can skip Cursor entirely. My guide to how many AI agents a small business needs helps you pick the first one.

You’re a developer who also runs a side business

Use Cursor for the hands-on sessions where you’re building the product, and Claude Code for the unattended jobs that run the business around it. They don’t conflict. Claude Code runs fine in Cursor’s integrated terminal, and Cursor’s CLI happily sits next to it. Watch the double spend: if you mostly drive Claude models inside Cursor, a Claude plan plus Cursor Plus ($8, Cursor models only) may cost less than Cursor Premium plus prepaid Claude credit. Price it on your own usage.

You’re a small product team

Cursor’s team features (central billing, SSO, the agent PR loop from GitHub and Slack) are the strongest argument for it. Add Claude Code where you need agents that work outside the repo: release notes to customers, support triage, data pulls. The Claude Code vs Codex guide covers the same team question from the OpenAI side, and Claude Cowork 與 Claude Code covers the non-terminal Anthropic option.

A one-week Cursor vs Claude Code trial that settles it

  1. Pick one task you do every week that touches more than one tool.
  2. Write it down as plain instructions, one page max.
  3. Run it by hand in each tool on day 1 and fix what breaks.
  4. Schedule it in each (Cursor Automation vs cron + 克勞德-p) for days 2 to 7.
  5. On day 8, compare three things: how many runs finished without you, what each one cost, and which log you could actually read.

常見問題解答

Cursor vs Claude Code: which is better for beginners?

For learning to code, Cursor, because you see every change in a familiar editor. For getting business work done without learning to code, Claude Code, because you describe outcomes in plain English and never have to read the files yourself.

Can I use Claude models inside Cursor?

Yes. On new X Subscription plans, Claude is available on Premium ($30) and up at API list price from prepaid credit, separate from your included pool. On Plus and Free it isn’t available. Legacy Pro, Pro+ and Ultra plans keep a separate included pool for third-party models.

Does Cursor still work now that SpaceX owns it?

Yes. Cursor runs as a wholly owned SpaceX subsidiary being integrated into SpaceXAI. The product, the CLI and cloud agents all still work. What changed is the packaging (bundled with Grok and X) and which models your subscription covers.

Can Cursor run on a schedule like Claude Code?

Yes, through Automations, which start cloud agents on cron schedules or events and are included from Premium up. The difference is that they run as Cursor cloud agents on Cursor-managed VMs and bill as cloud-agent usage, while Claude Code on cron runs on any machine you control.

Claude Code是免費的嗎?

No. Claude Code needs a paid Claude plan (Pro from $17 a month billed yearly) or API billing. I broke down every option in Claude Code是免費的嗎?

Cursor vs Claude Code: which should I pay for if I can only afford one?

If you write code daily, Cursor Premium. If you want hours back from running a business, Claude Pro, then Max once your agents are busy. That second path is the one I took, and it’s the one this site documents every day.

最後想說的話

The Cursor vs Claude Code question got sharper this week, not blurrier. Cursor is becoming the coding layer of a big consumer bundle, with excellent editor ergonomics, real cloud agents, and Claude as a pay-as-you-go guest. Claude Code is still a general-purpose agent that happens to be brilliant at code, and it’ll run anywhere you can type 克勞德-p.

So don’t ask which one is smarter. Ask what you want to happen while you’re asleep. If the answer is “a pull request waiting for me,” Cursor is a strong pick. If it’s “my business ran,” start with Claude Code, one boring weekly job, and a cron line. That’s how my fleet started, and it’s still how it runs.
